The assorted finds of Artefact Publishing
Years ago I came across a Latin translation of Alice through the looking glass, entitled Aliciae per speculum transitus. And the translation of the title bothered me then, and it bothers me now. Like Alice in Wonderland, the sequel’s title is about being in place (where “place” is mental more than geographic), not about the getting there and back again. So why, in the Latin, add in “transitus” (literally journey across)? All the necessary sense of movement is in the preposition “per”.
So say I anyway; it’s been years since I read the Alice books, and they always gave me a headache. Though I am working on an entity authority system which would cope with a knight whose name was called something (though that is a function of the system’s generic nature, rather than its normal usage).
